Resumption of Dragon Boating
After hunkering down for over a year, we hope you are now more than ready to paddle for health again. San Mateo County and the rest of California are expected to align with CDC guidance and reopen the economy with minimal restrictions on June 15, 2021. Between now and then – for everyone’s safety and health, we highly encourage everyone to get vaccinated. Vaccines are now widely available.
A huge thank you to the maintenance crew and to all the volunteers who have spent many days – since late April, cleaning, refurbishing, and painting the inside of both dragon boats. With their effort, OPD will be able to resume dragon boating on Father’s Day, Sunday, June 20, 2021 at 9:00 AM. Bring all the fathers out to play. If there are enough fathers, we will have a mini race – Fathers against the rest of the team?
While CDC deems it safe for vaccinated folks to do away with face coverings, we as a team, will continue to wear face coverings for our own protection until such time when masks become unnecessary. Kayaks and outrigger-canoes will remain available for those who prefer to paddle individually alongside the dragon boats.

Modified Access to the Marina
The marina has seen substantial construction progress even during the pandemic. Access to the marina is currently completely modified:
- Stay on the left lane as you approach the marina, up to Gull Dr
- Turn right at the dead-end of the brand new road intersection (traffic lights are NOT functional yet as of the date of this post)
- Watch for several temporary stop signs sitting on the pavement (pedestrians and bicycles may emerge from temporary trails)
- Go all the way through past OPYC; slow down considerably due to uneven pavement
- Turn left by the fishing pier
- Park across from the trailer or across from the ferry terminal
- Use the temporary path to Gate 7
